I have to tell you about my newest favorite device. Since I am commuting between the southern and mid-northern ends of the state, my visits to the library are curtailed. I can not, in good conscience, check out and take library books with me as I travel. Too cumbersome, in any case.
I have a Nook Color, as I may have mentioned once or five times. Electronic books from the library travel well and expire rather than having to be returned.
I received a gift card to Barnes and Noble for Christmas. Happy doesn't begin to describe my reading condition, right now. I have discovered Lisa Scottoline's books and am in the process of soldiering through the list - gratis through the library.
I recently told 01 Doc that I had finally been able to side-load library books from the laptop to the Nook without calling for tech support. It isn't complicated, just scary having to delete a couple of files that sound important. Those files get re-created every time you download, so it isn't as drastic as it seemed that first time.
And, you want to hear another plus? The operating system on the Nook Color upgraded itself and I didn't even know it had.
The little dickens . . .

Ah, I feel so, so...back'ards. I'm still turning pages and storing paperbacks. But I've read several Scottoline books and just finished Persuader - a Jack Reacher novel I hadn't read and started a J. A. Jance called Trial By Fire. I love it when they come out in the order written so that the characters are like familiar old friends. Now, if we just could have a yard sale so I could get rid of some of the old books to make room for - uh, less old ones.
I would never have splurged for the Nook Color except for a two step experience. I first bought the (wifi only) Nook which has light grey background with blackish print. With my eye problems, it was not comfy to read. I called B&N who said bring it back and you can get a refund or an upgrade to the Nook Color. Duh. The one I have is backlighted, white background with adjustable brightness, adjustable print size, reverse white on black background night mode, etc. Do I sound as if I had stock in the company? Not.
Uh.....yeah, you do. But that's a good thing. Means when the rest of us move on up to a better system, we won't have to do the research. Just follow your lead and arrive at the best option and the best bang for the buck-a-rooney! Kind of like having a Consumer Advocate at hand.
Hoo-Yah!
