Trial and ...

J's mother is here, visiting from Orange Park. She is a wonderfully modern person of 85 years experience. Today, we will go to lunch with her. She loves fish, so I think we will introduce her to the Rockfish Grill.

After having had a non digital SLR camera for some years, it is a come-down to have a moderately adjustable digital. It has an auto focus which allows some tweaking from the user, but the flash has a pitiable usable distance. So I turned the flash off, finally. I am discovering the light levels that the camera needs indoors, by trial and error.

I hope when I'm pushing 80's I have half J.'s mothers get-up and go. Got to start eating more fish. My SLR is gathering dust on the hutch but every now and then, I'll dig it out and snap a picture. Haven't had anything developed and don't know how old the film is. When it's ready to take to CVS - I hope it's still in good condition.

Our SLR drowned on a camping trip that the Scouts took, years ago. Someone, naming no names, took it out of the waterproof bag to take some shots. Then the canoe overturned and the camera had not been re-bagged.

Oh dear, poor canoe riders. Poor person who didn't repack the camera so that the water invaded its little innards.

That's okay - I still have a vivid memory of a gold plated watch on a youthful wrist... faux suede black band - delicate numbers. Sweep hand that looked so suave. Wore it to the beach one day. Went in the water. Remembered after being fully submerged that I HADN'T REMOVED THE WATCH. It wasn't waterproof. (Sob)

Digital SLR = My Dream!

I have a Canon SLR from the 70's it seems. There is something about being able to adjust the aperture to a setting that the automatic cameras frown upon that is just liberating.

Your niece is hoping to see pictures soon!
