An offer you can't refuse?

We got a call last week asking us to come to our doctors' office this afternoon. They are brothers who are in practice together, each with his own specialty. It adds a whole new dimension to the term family practice.

Every month, they ask their patients who are over "a certain age" to come in during their birthday month for lunch and cake. We have never been asked before and it is nice of them.

But, what if you've stopped counting birthdays?

I wouldn't tell them I wasn't counting b-days any more. It's not polite to talk with your mouth full!

What if the cake is one with sugar? Do carbs consumed in a doctor's office not affect one?

At least we'll be near help ...

Just have one of the Doctor's waive his hand over the cake a few times so the sugar will turn into a low calorie sweetener. Plus, you have not one, but two backups in case the hand waive doesn't work on the cake. My methods are to pretend the food is sugar free until I check my sugar levels the next day. My next steps after checking my blood sugar are: drink my morning coffee w/o sugar. Salad for lunch with water. Possible salad for dinner or eat fish. These procedures are also followed with lots of will power.

If my doctor can wave a hand over my food and change it from sugar to No Sugar Added or better - He needs to be charging a lot more than he does right now!

In addition to pretending the food is sugar free, I've been told to take my sugar meds. before I ingest the no-no food. So, you wait until late and THEN eat the slice of cake - take your meds and toddle off to bed!
