Safe as coconuts ...

It looks as if Daniel is headed elsewhere but I can not be happy about it. Just relieved for us and sorry for those in its path. Plus, if it headed this way, we'd have to go out and pick those two coconuts that are still on our tree.

We still haven't made a firm plant 'em or eat 'em decision. There is a pair of coconut palms that leans over the road, on the other side of the canal. They are almost ready to drop their coconut bombs and I skirt around the target area when driving by.

I mean, why ask for it?

Plant one coconut and eat the other one without feeling guilty. I won't tell anyone if you eat both of them.

The home owner’s hurricane insurance deductibles are unreasonable. If your state receives a hurricane, your home owner’s insurance policy will punish your wallet. Ops, sorry, I didn't mean to start a therapy session.

That's alright, start therapy and don't let my session keep you from getting yours done. As far as homeowner's policies, the huge Pecan in our back yard fell over in a moderate breeze and just brushed the back sliding door glass. We couldn't get out the door for tree limbs. The policy wouldn't pay to even clean up the mess because the house had no damage. Now I ask you....!

The home owner's insurance company adjuster should have been grateful that the house was not damaged from the Pecan tree. You made your home owners house payment and you deserved the request to remove the tree even if it just for safety reasons. Not to mention, your back door was blocked and you needed an additional exit for escape incase you need to leave the house in a hurry.

Insurance companies certainly do know how to take care of themselves. The trouble is that they are supposed to take care of their customers, too. In theory, that is. Actual practice seems to differ, no?

Wiggle, wiggle, lotsa room.

Ya'know, the insurance company was run by a different management when we first signed up and a few years later went partners with a Gainesville gent. The year lightening hit the Pecan in the front yard, they did pay about half to take down the dead tree - after a huge limb landed just beside R. as he was working on a vehicle in our front yard. I should'a mentioned the 2nd tree blocking an exit. That might have popped a few bucks loose.

From Alabama: Watching Hurricane Dean news, it looks like the eye went just north of Belize, where Madison's parents and sister live. They probably went to the mountain property - they have a place on the coast, too. Say prayers for safety?

Wow, I have so much sympathy for folks in the path of a cat. 5 storm. I will indeed say prayers for safety. Let us know as soon as you hear, okay?

I wonder what the insurance in Belize is like?

News from Belize is that the storm passed mostly north of where they were and they only got some rain. All's well that ends well!
